What is a Bronzer?

Hello world, I’m back again to clear all your doubts regarding different makeup products and their uses. This will be an explanation as to what is bronzing

We all want that Kim Kardashian perfect face cut right? Don’t worry if you don’t have it because makeup will help you. Just applying foundation to your skin makes you look pale, dull and sick. Foundation is used to cover up and minor imperfections and also to given an even skin color.

This basically adds color back to your face so that it does not look pale and dull. Let’s look at the magic of a bronzer first,

Blown away right?? Let’s talk about this in detail:

This is a darker color powder. Adding a darker color to some areas of your face, creates shadows and make you face look perfect. If you’re not into everyday hardcore highlight and contour, you can use just a bronzer for a more natural look. There are many bronzers of different brands and it should be used according to its formula.

  • This can be called contouring as well.
  •  If it’s matte, it can be applied to the contour areas. It can also be used to set the cream contour areas.
  •  If it has shimmer in it, I would not recommend using it in the contour areas.
  •  The places where bronzer should be applied to the, hollows of your cheeks, sides of your nose, temples of the forehead and on the jaw line.

Here are some examples :)

I would really recommend you investing in a good bronzer because one simple step can change your look. Feel free to ask any questions here or on my Facebook page. (Shivali Makeovers)

Hello world,

I’m back again to expand your knowledge about makeup and the products. Today I will be telling you about face powders. So let’s go into the details:

Face powder is a cosmetic powder applied to the face to set a foundation after application. It can also be reapplied throughout the day to minimize shininess caused by oily skin. It comes in a variety of colors with various coverages.

Certain types of pigmented facial powders can be worn alone with no base foundation. Powder, tones the face and gives an even appearance. Besides toning the face, some powders with sunscreen can also reduce skin damage from sunlight and environmental stress. It comes packaged either as a compact or as loose powder. Uniform distribution over the face is achieved more easily when a loose powder is applied.

  •  The main and basic use of a face powder is for setting the foundation or any sort of creams.
  •  Different colors can be used to set different parts of the face. Light color for the highlighting, medium color for setting the actual skin tone and a darker color for setting the contouring.
  •  Powder helps to prevent creasing of the foundation or the concealer. (creasing means formation of the lines caused mostly under/over the eyes and near the mouth, because of the un-even blending of the cream/liquid product.

Hello world, I’m back with another review. Today I will be giving my thoughts about the Neutrogena sun block. Neutrogena has always been my favorite brand for skin care so I didn’t hesitate even once while buying the sun-block. Let’s get into the details:

Neutrogena ultra sheer dry touch sun-block SPF50+ (PA+++) is a breakthrough in sun protection. Stabilized with Helioplex, it provides superior balanced broad-spectrum protection against skin-again UVA and burning UVB rays, and combines it with Dry Touch technology for an ultra light, non-shiny finish.

It comes in 2 different sizes and prices:

= 30ml and its price is Rs 175/-

= 88ml and its price is Rs 499/-

For summers:

Hey girls, I wanted to talk about concealers this week. Many girls don’t know what a concealer is. The importance of a concealer, it’s use, etc. So let’s get into the details from the very beginning.

A concealer or color corrector is that type of cosmetic that is used to mask dark circles, age spots, large pores, and other small blemishes visible on the skin. It is similar to foundation, but thicker and used to hide different imperfections by blending the imperfection into the surrounding skin tone. It is normally applied after primer, after foundation and used on the face. Both concealer and foundation are typically used to make skin appear more uniform in color. These two types of cosmetics differ in that concealers tend to be more heavily pigmented, though they are available in a wide range of opacity. It also comes in different forms from liquid to solid. Also, foundation is usually applied to larger areas.

Concealer is available in a variety of shades, from lightest to deepest. When picking a concealer, people tend to choose one or two shades lighter than their skin tone to better hide their blemishes and dark circles under the eye. This is a wrong thing to do. The undertone of dark cirles are usually black and if you apply a lighter shade concealer to it, the area will turn grey. Similarly if you apply a  lighter shade of concealer to your blemishes, it will become more prominent and will show more. I would suggest using the same color or an orange based concealer to it so that it doesn’t look grey or more prominent. Lighter shade concealers are used for highlighting, not covering dark areas.

Some colors are intended to look like a natural skin tone, while others are meant to contrast with a particular type of blemish.

Now you will be like, what the hell!! Why do they have green, orange or purple color concealers. Let me clear that doubt too.

  • Concealers with yellow/ orange undertones are used to hide dark circles.
  •  Green and blue can counteract red patches on the skin, such as those caused by pimples or any blemishes.
  •  A purple-tinted concealer can make sallow complexions look brighter.

Colored concealers such as these are usually applied sparingly beneath a concealer or foundation that matches the wearer’s skin tone. Skin-toned concealers are not only the most common type, but are often sufficient on their own at hiding or blurring imperfections.

A concealer is used for two things:

  1. Cover imperfections.
  2. Brighten up the eye area.

So select a concealer as per the use. If you have any further queries, comment down below and I’ll be happy to answer.

Hello world,

I love rosy cheeks, which is why I was on a hunt for a beautiful and natural looking blush. I got satisfied when I bought Maybelline’s dream touch blush. I’ve had this product for over a year now and I can surely say that this really is the dream touch blush. Let’s get into the details:

This is ultra-soft and ultra-blendable and gives a smooth application. It has a cream blush formula that spreads easily on the skin and gives a natural color. It has a little bit if shimmer in it so it looks as if your skin is glowing.

Price is pretty reasonable. Rs.375/-. You get 7.5g of the product. It is worth the price.

  •  Reasonable
  •  Glides on easily because of the cream formula.
  •  Good for everyday usage.
  •  Easily buildable. You can put as much or as less as you like.
  •  Application best with fingers.
  •  Easily blendable, feels light on the skin.
  •  Comes in 3 different colors. 04-Pink, 05-Mauve, 07-Plum. (I have 05.)
  •  Skin doesn’t feel dry as it is a cream blush.

  • Not that long lasting. So I would not recommend it for a long and formal function.
  •  Can look cakey if applied with a brush.
  •  Size of the container could be bigger.

This is an amazing blush if you want a rosy and fresh look every day. I would not recommend using a brush for it’s application. I find that my fingers do a better job at blending this product product out. It has a little bit of shimmer in it so you don’t need a highlight. This is not long lasting so I would not use it for formal occasions and long nights.

(Disclaimer: All my reviews are based on my personal experience.)

FOUNDATIONPeople always ask me, what is the difference between a foundation, concealer, pancake, etc?

So all those who are still confused let me clear it out.

Foundation is the product that can be applied on the face as well as the body to give the appearance of a smooth and flawless looking skin. It is colored to match the color of one’s skin. Foundation is basically used to even out the skin tone as well as to cover up imperfections. If a person has severe skin issues which cannot be covered by a foundation then concealer should be used.

Coverage means how much of the imperfections the foundation can cover. Let’s talk about this in detail.

This kind of foundation is the most transparent and has the least amount of coverage. This does not even out the skin tone but can minimize the contrast between the discoloration and the rest of the face. If you don’t want it to look as if you’re wearing too much makeup, use a foundation with sheer coverage.

This kind of foundation can cover slight unevenness in the skin. The face will not be all flawless because it gives a light coverage.

This is mainly present in all kinds of foundations and such foundations can cover very well. They cover blemishes, freckles, discoloration. If you want a smooth skin without looking all cakey, use foundations with medium coverage.

These are the foundations where the coverage is very opaque. It is used to cover birth marks, tattoos, scars, etc.

Now here are some easy ways in which you can apply your foundation. Choose your favorite way of applying it.

This is the most traditional way of applying foundation. Why is this the best way?? That’s so because the natural warmth of your fingers makes it so easy for the foundation to glide on giving it a very sheer look which a brush cannot do. However, using your fingers can leave streaks and finger marks. Remember you have be gentle with the product, you have to blend it not rub it.

A sponge can be used to create a medium coverage. Personally I find this the best way to apply foundation. It just soaks any extra product that you might not have blended. But, do not forget to wash you sponge after every use. It can be very unhygienic if you don’t. Apply the foundation on your hand, take it on the sponge and tap it on your face, even if it takes time. Do not rub it with the sponge.

I love using brushes. And I find this to be a very helpful way of applying foundation, mostly because so many new kinds of brushes have developed throughout the years. One can use a simple flat brush or a stippling brush and both of them give a different result. Take the foundation on your hand and dip the brush. Move the brush in circular motions on your face.

This is a very professional way of applying foundation. I don’t like airbrushing because then I don’t have a personal contact with the customer. Liquid is applied through an air stream. It is a very fast way of applying makeup.

An excessively red complexion can be minimized by using a clear (meaning neither yellow nor pink) beige toned foundation. A sallow or dull complexion can be brightened with a rose to red to tint mature skin that has lost its color and appears pale and dull can be brightened with a tint of clear pink; and olive or ashy skin can be brightened with a shot of peach. A crucial point in selecting a foundation shade is to recognize that the appearance of the shade in the container may not give the same color impact on the skin — a foundation that appears very yellow in the bottle may go on much less yellow, or not appear yellow at all.

  •  If you have a foundation that gives a light to medium coverage, but you want a medium to full coverage, simply build the product. Building the product here means after applying one layer of foundation evenly to the skin, do the same thing again till you don’t get the desired coverage.

(Note: not all foundations are buildable.)

  •  As long as you are blending the product in the right way you will never have a problem in applying foundation. Make sure no part of your face and neck are left.
  •  Do not forget applying the left over foundation on the neck, you don’t want your neck and face color being different.
  •  Don’t hurry. Finish one part of your face and then move on to another part of your face.

Here are some frequently asked questions. Hope they help you.

  • Q. Why doesn’t the foundation blend?

  • A. This is because you are not blending it right. Read the “application tools” paragraph above and it will clear your doubt.
  • Q. How to choose the right foundation?

  • A. Skin type: Depending on your skin type choose a foundation for oily, dry, combination skin. The packaging mostly has such details.               Color: There are many brands where you find a number of colors to match your skin color and then there are brands where you don’t find it. I would recommend matching the color of your body to the foundation. Feel free to mix the colors, that is what I usually do. There is not one color on your face. A person has more than 10 colors on their face, so feel free to play around with colors.
  • Q. How to avoid the grey/black patch after applying foundation?

  • A. This mostly happens with Indian skin tones. Dark circles, areas around the mouth are the most troublesome areas. For Indian skin, I would suggest to use a yellow tone foundation not a white tone foundation, as it will mix to your natural color.
  • Q. “I have very oily skin and whenever I put foundation it doesn’t stay, it literally starts melting. What should I do?”

  • A. This is a problem faced by many people who have severe oily skin.
  •  buy oil control primer. This is the most important step to having a good makeup base.
  •  use foundations which are specifically formulated for oily skins.
  •  set your foundation with a setting powder.
  •  do not use moisturizers.
  • Q. What precautions should be taken for acne prone skin?

  • A. No one can really tell you which product you should buy, because you are the one who should feel comfortable with that product. So I would suggest testing out products and finding out what really suits you. Use the creams and moisturizers that your dermatologist has given as a primer so that there is no damage to your skin.

  • Q.Difference between a bb cream and foundation?

  • A. A BB-cream is a tinted moisturizer that can be used on a daily basis. It hydrated your skin as well as evens out the skin tone. Different companies have different formulas.

A foundation is not a moisturizer and should not be used on a daily basis. It is just to cover imperfections on those days when you want to have a flawless skin.

Hope this helps :-)
